About

Prof. Ishwar Lohani is a distinguished Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon from Nepal, currently serving as Professor of Plastic Surgery and Burns at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Kathmandu, and as a consultant at HAMS Hospital. With over 27 years of experience in cleft lip, palate, burns, and reconstructive surgery, he is recognized as one of Nepal’s leading figures in plastic surgery and burn care.

He completed his MBBS at Madurai Medical College (1991), followed by MS in General Surgery (1994) and MCh in Plastic Surgery (1997) from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. His advanced training includes prestigious fellowships at the University of Southern California and California Pacific Medical Center (2001–2002), and at St. John’s Hospital, Livingston and Canniesburn Hospital, Glasgow (2003).

Prof. Lohani has been deeply involved in advancing burn care and reconstructive surgery in Nepal. He is the President of the Nepal Burn Society (since 2022), Vice President of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of Nepal, and Project Director for Smile Train at TUTH, where he has been instrumental in the management of cleft lip and palate for nearly three decades. His contributions to research have been presented at national and international conferences, earning recognition including the Best Poster Award at APSICON 2006.

Beyond clinical excellence, Prof. Lohani is a committed educator and examiner for postgraduate surgical training at National Academy Medical Sciences ,Kathmandu University, in addition to Tribhuvan University, guiding numerous theses in plastic surgery and burns. His leadership roles, exemplified by transforming a plastic surgery unit to Department of Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at academic contributions, and dedication to advancing surgical training align with Mirtunjaya's mission to transform burn care and reconstructive surgery in Nepal.
