
General, Burn and Reconstructive Surgeon, Surgical Critical Care Specialist
Raju Bhandari, hailing from Nepal, is a board-certified Consultant General Surgeon and has completed fellowship in Surgical Critical Care (acute burn) at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, USA in September 2024, and currently working as General, Burn and Reconstructive Surgeon and Surgical Critical Care specialist at Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital(SKMH), Nepal. Dr. Bhandari is the inaugural Burn Surgeon of Nepal. Currently, he is leading the Burn Registry project at SKMH and serves as the Coordinator of the Institutional Research Committee at the same institution.
Dr. Bhandari has six peer-reviewed papers to his credit, including a book chapter, one poster presentation, four oral presentations, two peer-reviewed online publications, and five other publications.
In addition to his clinical and research endeavors, Dr. Bhandari has been dedicated to medical education. He has taught medical students and house officers in China, Nepal, and the Maldives. Moreover, he served as a Teaching Assistant (TA) at Johns Hopkins University and Towson University, Maryland, working alongside Professor Sel J. Hwahng. These experiences have not only fortified his leadership skills but have also provided him with insights into the teaching methodologies in the United States. Dr. Bhandari recognizes the paramount importance of cultural sensitivity in healthcare, which he has actively incorporated into his practice as a general surgeon, particularly in a Muslim-majority country. He has worked at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital ( IGMH) and Metro Medica Hospitals as consultant General Surgeon. He views cultural sensitivity not merely as a characteristic but as a fundamental aspect of patient-centered care, which fosters trust and respect for diverse identities within healthcare settings.
